Icicles from Chichibu, well-known as Night Festival on Dec.3, 2019

Hi everyone how are you doing? Today’s topic is “Icicles” from Chichibu city, where it had Chichibu Night Festival last night held every year of December 3 and it was rich in pageantry.

I’d like to report you for your information if you are interested to visit miraculous icicles in the eraly part of next year.

What’s Icicles ?

An icicle is a spike of ice formed when water dripping or falling from an object freezes or a hanging, tapering piece of ice formed by the freezing of dripping water.

So we usually see very often them hanging from the eaves of a house as follows,

There are a wide variety of winter attractions in the Chichibu area in western Saitama Prefecture, enabling visitors to appreciate what the popular tourist destination is famous for — rich nature and tradition.

Cold weather turns nature into art, with landscapes rendered even more fantastical when illuminated.

Access to Chichibu : Convenient access enables people to easily enjoy what the area has to offer.

From Tokyo, it’s just around 80 minutes via Seibu Railway Co.’s limited express to the city of Chichibu, a regional commercial and transportation hub.

There are three spots of fantastical view of Icicle

For those who want to take in the unique seasonal landscape, Chichibu’s renowned Three Largest Icicles are must-sees.

They comprise Misotsuchi Icicles in the city’s Otaki district, Onouchi Hyakkei Icicles in the town of Ogano and Ashigakubo Icicles in the town of Yokoze.

No.1 Ashigakubo icicle

Access: Ashigakubo Icicles are easily accessible via train. They are about 10 minutes on foot from Ashigakubo Station on the Seibu Chichibu Line.

The 30-meter-high and 200-meter-wide icicles await, artificially created with mountain stream water by the local residents.

The site is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Jan. 5 to Feb. 24. During this period, the icicles are also illuminated after sunset until 8 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as on public holidays.

Visitors (junior high school students and older) need to pay ¥300 as a fee for environmental improvement.

This notice is almost the same as other spots of Misotsuchi icicle and Onouchi Hyakkei icicle except some minor changes of depending on weather.
