2024 Best country in the world
In 2024, Japan was voted the best tourist country in the world, with first and second place, according to votes from travelers who visited the destinations.
For more information, the following video will convince you.
How was it? There are quite a few aspects that we are pleased with, but on the other hand, there are some issues that need to be corrected in the near future.
Japan’s popularity as a tourist destination also highlights its vulnerabilities as follows,
★ Overconcentration of Tourism
While Japan ranks highter position globally in the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Development Index, the majority of visitors and spending are concentrated in cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
Attracting tourists to regional areas remains a challenge, as a result, problems arise such as:
overcrowding and noise in certain areas,
strain on local infrastructure,
and tourists tending to visit the same places repeatedly.
★ Manner and Environmental Design Issues
Alongside the increase in inbound tourists, “manner issues” like littering, eating and drinking on the streets, and noise in residential areas have been highlighted.
Underlying factors include insufficient multilingual guidance, inadequate rule signage, and poorly designed tourist routes, highlighting shortcomings in Japan’s reception infrastructure.
Consequently,
it often becomes unclear where and what activities are permitted,
and even when visitors wish to follow rules, they struggle to access the necessary information.
★ Labor Shortages and Service Sustainability
While Japan is globally praised for its cultural resources and safety, its tourism service sectors—including lodging and dining—suffer from weaknesses such as:
Low labor productivity
Difficulty securing skilled staff
Vulnerabilities in disaster response and sustainability
This leads to persistent problems like:
Unstable service quality due to labor shortages
Significant seasonal fluctuations causing unstable employment
These are current issues that need to be resolved immediately.
Revive, Yamato Spirit!
Finally, this short video, which concludes with the words “Revive, Yamato Spirit!” begins with the words “The Japanese have lost their souls,” according to former Uruguayan President, Mujica, as in the title of the first part of the video, and then gives a brief summary of the story so far. It is worth watching.
About“Yamato spirit”(大和魂、Yamato damashii) that was the last scene of the video, it means as follows,
“The Japanese people’s unique spirit. It is characterized by bravery and grace.
It was propagated under the nationalist ideology of the Emperor System and the militaristic ideology of the war period.
The wisdom and talent unique to the Japanese people.”
Thanks for visiting,
Have a nice day!
